How Is the Piano Rental-to-Purchase Discount Calculated?

PIANO RENTAL KNOWLEDGE · PNR-008

If You Rent a Piano and Decide to Buy, How Much More Do You Pay?

How rental payments and the security deposit are applied, with a six-month comparison of a Japanese Piano and Yamaha U3.

Short answer

When purchasing an eligible piano, up to six months of paid rent can be applied as a discount. The security deposit and eligible interest can be applied toward the purchase price, so the customer pays the remaining balance under the company’s terms.

Piano price − eligible rent discount − security deposit − deposit interest = additional amount payable

How to calculate the additional payment

A discount should be separated from money applied as payment. Rent and the security deposit serve different purposes.

Up to six months of rent

Eligible paid rent is deducted as a discount when the purchased piano is priced at the same level as or higher than the rented model. Renting for more than six months does not automatically make all rent deductible.

Deposit and interest

The deposit is not a discount. It is the customer’s money and may be applied directly toward the purchase. Cash or bank-transfer deposits earn 5% interest per year; credit-card deposits do not.

Calculating rent and security deposit when purchasing a piano

Example 1: Japanese Piano

Assume a piano price of THB 95,000, monthly rent of THB 990, a THB 20,000 deposit, and six months of deposit interest.

Item Calculation Amount
Piano price Starting amount THB 95,000
Six-month rent discount 990 × 6 THB 5,940
Security deposit Applied to purchase THB 20,000
Deposit interest 20,000 × 5% × 6/12 THB 500
Additional amount payable 95,000 − 5,940 − 20,000 − 500 THB 68,560

Example 2: Yamaha U3

Assume a Yamaha U3 price of THB 135,000, monthly rent of THB 3,500, a THB 45,000 deposit, and six months of deposit interest.

Item Calculation Amount
Piano price Starting amount THB 135,000
Six-month rent discount 3,500 × 6 THB 21,000
Security deposit Applied to purchase THB 45,000
Deposit interest 45,000 × 5% × 6/12 THB 1,125
Additional amount payable 135,000 − 21,000 − 45,000 − 1,125 THB 67,875

Japanese Piano vs Yamaha U3

Item Japanese Piano Yamaha U3 Difference
Piano price 95,000 135,000 THB 40,000
Monthly rent 990 3,500 THB 2,510
Security deposit 20,000 45,000 THB 25,000
Six-month rent discount 5,940 21,000 THB 15,060
Six-month deposit interest 500 1,125 THB 625
Balance after six months 68,560 67,875 U3 is THB 685 lower
All figures are in Thai baht and are examples, not a quotation.

The THB 15,000 figure is not an extra discount

The U3 costs THB 40,000 more, while its deposit is THB 25,000 higher. The THB 15,000 difference only explains the gap between the price difference and deposit difference; it is not an additional reduction in the piano price.

If buying a Yamaha U3 is already the goal, renting the U3 from the beginning may be more suitable. The learner becomes familiar with its sound, touch, and mechanism, while six eligible rental payments can be applied as a discount.

Can you rent one model and buy another?

Yes. The purchased piano may be a different instrument or model if its price is equal to or higher than the piano price stated in the rental agreement, subject to company terms.

  • Rent a Japanese Piano and buy a Yamaha U1 or U3
  • Rent a Yamaha U1 and buy a Yamaha U3 or higher-priced model
  • Rent one grand piano and buy another eligible grand piano
  • Ask the team to calculate the actual agreement before deciding

Do you have to buy immediately?

No. Eligibility for a discount of up to six months’ rent does not require an immediate purchase. If the model, budget, or learner’s continuity is still uncertain, the rental may continue under the service terms.

Once you begin considering a purchase, ask the team for an actual calculation to compare continuing the rental with buying at that time.

Summary

The additional payment depends on the chosen piano price, up to six months of eligible rent, the security deposit, and deposit interest. In these examples, the Japanese Piano requires THB 68,560 more, while the Yamaha U3 requires THB 67,875 more, even though their piano prices differ by THB 40,000.

All figures are examples and are not a quotation or binding offer. The actual calculation must follow the rental agreement, model, rental duration, deposit payment method, and terms effective on the purchase date.
