Should Your Child Rent or Buy a Flute? A Guide for Parents Before Buying

For children, parents, beginner flute students, and teachers who are deciding whether to start with renting or buying an instrument.

QUICK ANSWER
Rent First,
Then Decide

For a child who has just started learning flute, it is helpful to have a personal instrument available for practice from the first day. In general, renting first is a suitable option because it gives the student time to learn and practise consistently before the family decides to buy.

The teacher should help assess whether the student can comfortably reach the keys and hold the flute correctly. Once the student is learning consistently, practising regularly, and plans to continue long term, the family can then consider buying. Rental payments may be applied toward the purchase price according to company terms.

RIGHT FIT FIRST

Start with a Flute That Fits the Student

Playing the flute requires the student to reach the keys comfortably, balance the arms, and maintain an appropriate holding position. This is especially important for younger children, so the teacher should help assess readiness before choosing the instrument or related accessories.

Key point: Do not choose an instrument based on the child’s age alone. Check whether the student can reach the keys and maintain a suitable playing position.
FIRST WEEKS OF LEARNING

What Should Beginners Understand in the First Stage of Learning Flute?

At the beginning, students are learning breath control, lip placement, and how to hold the flute steadily. It is normal if they cannot produce a sound immediately or if the sound is still inconsistent.

Students should use the instrument recommended by their teacher and continue practising the assigned exercises before assuming there is a problem with the flute or rushing to change to another model simply because they are not yet playing comfortably.

ASSEMBLY GUIDE

How to Assemble and Disassemble a Flute

1
Wash your hands first and place the instrument on a stable surface.
2
Hold the flute by the tube, not by the keys or key rods.
3
Connect the Headjoint to the top of the Body, then attach the Footjoint to the lower end.
4
Align the parts as recommended by the teacher, twist gently into position, and do not force or press them together too tightly.
5
When disassembling, reverse the assembly order and place each part back into its proper compartment in the case.
AFTER PRACTICE

4 Things to Do After Playing the Flute

01
Remove Moisture
Use a suitable cloth or cleaning tool to absorb moisture from inside the instrument.
02
Wipe the Exterior
Make sure the outside of the flute is dry before putting it away.
03
Store It in the Case
Keep the flute in its closed case and do not place other objects on top of it.
04
Avoid Heat and Humidity
Do not leave the instrument in a car or in a hot and humid area.
STOP USING IF SOMETHING FEELS WRONG

Do Not Force Sticking, Loose, or Abnormal Keys

Do not apply oil or grease, bend the keys, or try to repair the instrument yourself. If a key is out of position, loose, does not work when pressed, or certain notes sound abnormal, stop using the flute and contact the Churairat Music team immediately.
